ow ironic thought Carlos. More than 100 years ago, his ancestors worked for Robert Waterman, California’s 17th Governor, and tonight he was staying in the very room where this distinguished man had slept. Over the years, he had heard stories of this great man and the kindness he had shown Carlo’s family. Unpacking his suit for the next day’s meeting, Carlos glanced at his richly appointed surroundings and wondered what his ancestors would think now. His family had indeed come a long way. Looking out at the San Diego skyline, he tried to imagine what the city looked like in the late 1800’s. What historic plans had been made in this very room? With important meetings ahead and a busy day behind him, Carlos strangely felt the presence of the man he not only admired, but felt he knew.
