Location:

Located in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood of San Diego, the historic Britt Scripps Inn is a block from the world-famous Balboa Park and its many museums, gardens and attractions and is a five-minute drive from the San Diego International Airport, and minutes from downtown and the popular Gaslamp District and Petco Park.

Description: The Queen Anne-style Victorian Inn, with its nine private rooms, combines turn-of-the-century style and grandeur with contemporary convenience and personalized service.
Design:

One of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in San Diego, the three-story Britt Scripps Inn has been completely restored to authentically reflect the craftsmanship and rich heritage of the late 1800s.

Period antiques, rugs and fixtures adorn the lobby, parlor, dining room and private guest rooms. Additional features include rich woodwork, a hand-carved oak staircase, two-story original stained-glass window, claw-footed-bathtubs, covered wrap-around front porch, bay windows and seven gables.

Guest Rooms: The individually designed and decorated rooms, each with private bath, represent different design genres from within the Victorian period. Antique furniture and rugs, as well as vibrantly colored and lushly textured fabrics and wall coverings, give the rooms a historic, yet contemporary feel of elegance and warmth.
Amenities:

All rooms include modern day amenities, such as flat screen televisions, wireless high-speed Internet access and state-of-the-art phone systems. Guests will enjoy 1,000 thread-count bed linens, heated towel racks, and luxurious Ariana bath robes.

Food & Beverage:

A complimentary full American breakfast featuring homemade breads, signature teas and coffee is served in the dining room, parlor and wrap-around porch. Also complimentary is a late afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres gathering.

A variety of outstanding restaurants are located nearby. The Inn’s staff can provide a detailed overview of guests’ choices.

Meetings & Special Events:

Business meetings and special occasions are well served by the on-site catering kitchen and lushly landscaped patio and lawn area. With San Diego’s year round moderate to warm temperatures, the outdoor space, which can accommodate up to 125 people, is perfect for weddings, social events and elegant sit-down dinners.

Room Rates: Rates for Britt Scripps Inn range from $205 to $515 per night.
History:

The Britt-Scripps house was built in 1887, by Eugene W. Britt, a prominent water rights lawyer. The house was later sold to newspaper publisher Edward W. Scripps and remained in the Scripps family until 1944. It has had only a handful of owners in the past 60 years. In addition to a private residence, the house has been used as a doctor’s office, teahouse, antique shop, boarding house, bed & breakfast and law offices.

Gordon Hattersley, III purchased the home in 2001 and spent approximately $6 million and several years restoring the house and grounds to their original glory.
