ROOM DESCRIPTIONS
The nine lavishly decorated and elaborately appointed rooms at Britt Scripps Inn, each with a private
bath, authentically reflect the many Queen Anne Victorian architectural movements and various interior
styles of high-society living during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The rooms boast antique furniture and rugs, as well as vibrantly colored and lushly textured fabrics and
wall coverings. Created with relaxation and comfort in mind, guests may choose from an intriguing
selection of rooms that offer an old-world setting with a contemporary feel of elegance and warmth.
All rooms include modern day amenities like flat screen televisions, wireless high speed Internet access
and state-of-the-art phone systems. Guests will enjoy 1,000-thread-count bed linens, heated towel racks,
Kiehl’s bath amenities and luxurious Aviana bathrobes.
The Library
Located on the ground floor, The Library is resplendent with its rich wood furnishings and elaborately ornate finishes, this stately room embodies the refined elegance and charm of Victorian times. The hand-carved, burled-walnut queen-size bed is adorned with tapestry bedding and decorative pillows.
A stunning pre-Raphaelite mural highlights The Library’s ADA-compliant bathroom along with a golden Travertine-tiled floor, claw-footed tub with overhead showerhead and a towel warmer.
Golden Oak Room
This intriguing ground floor room, with its filigree-carved oak bedroom set, has its own verandah overlooking the 1865 Camphor Tree in the courtyard. Quilted bedding with crocheted pillows and draping cover the queen-size bed, and the dazzling star patterned ceiling paper shines down on the paneled oak TV cabinet and petite secretary desk and chair.
Timelessly classic black-and-white tiles provide understated elegance to the adjoining bathroom that is overflowing with decorative details, including a beautifully tiled shower and a towel warmer.
The Garden Room
This delightful ground floor room offers guests a bouquet of extraordinary comforts, from its classic medallion-clad iron day beds (which can used as one king or two twin beds) with delicate antique quilting to the beautiful bathroom with its blend of modern glass-enclosed shower with intricate Victorian tile work.
The room blossoms with its original wood-paneled wainscot, rose-patterned stripped wallpaper and trellis-accented ceiling. The Wicker armoire with TV and comfy lounge chair with ottoman give guests ample opportunities to sit back and smell the roses.
From the large open-air windows, billowing with white lace drapes and balloon valance, guests can take in the sights and sounds of the Inn’s garden.
Renaissance Room
Richly appointed in antique furnishings and romance-inspired finery, this Renaissance-Revival-style room is located on the second floor in the Inn’s rounded tower providing views of downtown San Diego.
The centerpiece of this spacious room is the spectacular circa 1870 Renaissance-Revival queen-size bed, regally dressed in luxurious jacquard-woven gold and wine-colored bedding. Shimmering golden drapes and valance, adorned in layers of trim and tassels, cover the triple windows. A large leather-top desk harkens to the days of hand-written letters, while an equally antique hand-carved armoire hides the modern day flat screen television.
Guests will take a step back in time when entering the room’s attached bathroom with its claw-footed tub and shower, and elaborately detailed hand-painted tiles with decorative medallions depicting renaissance motifs.
Aesthetic Room
This exquisite room second floor room is a tantalizing tribute to the Victorian era’s fascination with Far East travel and Asian culture and art. Brimming with exotic furnishings and ornamental art from China and Japan, this room offers visually stunning delights reminiscent of the Aesthetic Movement.
The delicately carved queen-size Japanese bed and dresser are enhanced by the accompanying bamboo furnishings and accessories, including two Chinese Chippendale chairs and round green-marble table.
The attractive attached bathroom features a claw-footed bathtub-shower surrounded by colorfully splashed hand-painted tile with a Japanese Koi fish pattern.
Gothic Room
Guests will bask in the dramatic Gothic-Revival décor of this second-story room that includes an open-air balcony. An original metal tracery headboard with sweeping arches frames the queen-size bed. The royal purple and deep green colors glimmering from the wall and window coverings provide an alluring backdrop for the bold Baronial lounge chair – resplendent in its coat-of-arms upholstered fabric -- and a glorious Gothic-style side-chair and oak writing table.
The bathroom is decked out with a delightful wood vanity cabinet and decorative incised-tiles that spotlight the sensational claw-foot bathtub.
Balboa Room
European influences abound in this second-floor room with a balcony overlooking the Inn’s garden. From the beautifully carved French armoire to the seductive Northern Italian bedroom set, the continental flavor of this spacious room will appeal to today’s worldly traveler. Decorative French touches include woven toile king size bedding, fleur-dis-lis-embossed crown moulding and medallion-laced ceiling a la Parisian style.
The bathroom has magnificent period drama with its whispering soft oval cameo tile, Venetian-style mirror and pedestal sink.
Governor’s Room
This second floor room hosted numerous dignitaries in its early days, including Robert Waterman, California’s 17 th governor. The queen-size, warm walnut bed with its heavily embroidered decorative bedding is paired with an oversized dresser and mirror with intricately carved floral motifs. The decorative fireplace is trimmed in reproduction English tiles.
An attached powder room, fully appointed with glass enclosed shower and pedestal sink, brightens with its sunny yellow walls and hand-painted crackle glaze tile with meandering vines and greenery.
Carriage Room
This small Victorian cottage is detached from the main house and offers a romantic retreat will leave guests feeling pampered with its plush rugs, vintage furniture and small personal touches.
The walnut burled queen-size bed with its classic-turned columns is handsomely dressed in an elaborately embroidered patchwork quilt and accompanied by a pair of marble-top nightstands.
The attached bathroom, with soft gold-and-white harlequin-style tiles, features a two-person whirlpool tub with shower. |
