Here at Britt Scripps Inn, we have made a lot of progress on the sustainability front. Below are some of the highlights of our environmental efforts.
- Corporate Social Responsibility: We donate our leftover amenities and old magazines to St. Paul’s Senior Center across the street from the inn.
We also donate room nights to help raise money for organizations such as the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Museum School, Mission Valley YMCA, San Diego Blood Bank, Orange County Ronald McDonald House, San Diego-Imperial County Girl Scouts, the Rob Dyrdek Foundation, and the San Diego FBI.
- Energy Efficiency: There are energy efficient light bulbs in all applicable areas of the inn as well as Energy Star televisions in the guest rooms.
- Green Lodging Program: Britt Scripps Inn is a participating member of the California Green Lodging Program.
- Housekeeping: Our housekeeping department uses environmentally-friendly cleaning products that are phosphate-free and contain biodegradable ingredients.
- Landscaping: Our garden is full of homegrown rosemary, lemons, and other herbs and vegetables that are used to cook breakfast.
- Linen Reuse: We offer a towel/linen reuse option to multiple night guests. This decreases our usage of water, energy, and detergents.
- Recycling: We currently recycle waste in all areas of the inn, including the kitchen, administrative office, and the guest rooms.
- Water Conservation: All shower heads, faucets, and toilets have water conserving fixtures to help reduce water usage.
- Composting: We use the raw food scraps from breakfast to create nutrient-rich soil for our large, private garden.
